Power Up Impact
Power Up ended in 2020. It was an important project in our work on women's transformative leadership.
In collaboration with three local partners, Power Up aimed to empower women and girls in Indonesia to participate in local democratic processes and exercise their rights. Before Power Up, women were largely excluded from any meaningful participation in West Nusa Tenggara, the Indonesian province where the project took place.
Women and girls used technology to gain information and understand the village development planning process. They worked together to become more involved in local decision-making and ensure that village resources were invested in women's rights and needs — particularly related to the region's extremely high maternal and infant mortality rates. Communities and officials alike identified high-risk pregnancy as a critical local health concern that required more attention and investment.
