Oxfam Canada Submission to the Government of Canada’s International Climate Finance Consultation
Climate change is inextricably linked to inequality and injustice. According to Oxfam research,1 the poorest half of the global population – around 3.5 billion people – are responsible for only around 10% of total global emissions attributed to individual consumption. Due to existing social norms and structural barriers, women are the most likely to suffer from climate change, but they are at the forefront of creating change and adaptation within their communities. Women with agency, resources and power continue to minimize the effects of climate change. There is no climate justice without gender justice.
