Oxfam and Canadian Celebrities Unwrap Ways to Give Life Changing Gifts this Holiday Season
Toronto — Oxfam Canada today announced a partnership with six Canadian celebrities to promote an exciting roster of items in its 2014 online holiday alternative gift catalog: Oxfam Unwrapped.
Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Ron Sexsmith (singer/song writer), Laurie Brown (CBC), Adam Growe (comedian & host Cash Cab), Lisa Ray (actor) and Krystin Pellerin (Republic of Doyle) have filled their wish lists this year with life-changing gifts that help people rise out of poverty. They will promote the campaign through various social media outlets and have published their wish lists on Oxfam Unwrapped.
“This Christmas, I would like to challenge everyone to help support the fight for gender equality and justice around the world, especially in developing countries. This is a cause that is close to my heart. I believe all genders should be empowered and deserve a voice in their community. Please join me in supporting Oxfam Unwrapped this year,” says Tatiana Maslany.
With over 56 items available for purchase, there is no shortage of items to choose from. Ron Sexsmith would like his fans to branch out and plant trees. Tatiana Maslany would like to challenge everyone to help support the fight for gender equality. Krystin Pellerin chose items that bring nourishment to impoverished communities. Laurie Brown is hoping to get a radio for Christmas – an essential tool in reaching out to poor communities with health advice and education. Adam Growe has clean water on his wish list. And Lisa Ray has a profound desire to see better education across the globe for girls.
In fact, many people are wishing for water this year — from hand-washing stations to stop the spread of Ebola, to toilets for Syrian refugees and buckets to keep water healthy in South Sudan. It’s also one of the things Oxfam does best.
Buying an Unwrapped gift is simple — an item is selected for a friend, family, colleague or from one of the celebrity wish lists, a card is delivered to them and the gift goes to those who need it most.
