Ottawa – On March 8, 2014 a dynamic group of local, national and international organizations will host the Feminist Games - an International Women's Day celebration in Ottawa at the Library and Archives Canada.

Over 400 people are expected to move to the sounds of DJ Jas Nasty, sample local treats and refreshing beverages and celebrate women in the community, across Canada, and around the world.

First - enter the feminist fair where you can challenge and hone your skills to fight for gender justice. Next, take a seat as we offer a video tour of feminist champions sharing their secrets and strategies. Finally, join the celebration as we mark the recipients of the sixth annual Femmy Awards.

This year the games will honor Denise Jessica Freedman, Diane McIntyre, Dillon Black, Hollaback! Ottawa and Marian De Vries for their outstanding contributions to the struggle for women’s equality.

Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, anchor of CBC News Ottawa, will be hosting the event. "I am thrilled to be invited to host the 2014 the Feminist Games and celebrate the achievements of such an outstanding group of nominees,” she said. “Their work is an inspiration to woman of all ages to realize their aspirations."

As always, the event is free, will have a cash bar, and be endlessly entertaining. Free childcare is available on site.

The evening is created by organizations that work on women’s rights locally, nationally and internationally and all are based here in Ottawa:

Amnesty International, Canadian Federation of University Women, Inter Pares, Nobel Women's Initiative, Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women, Oxfam Canada, Planned Parenthood Ottawa, Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund and World University Service of Canada – as well as some independent and amazing volunteers!

Interviews with organizing committee members in French or English are available. Interviews with 2014 Femmy award winners may also be arranged.
