Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report again exposes shocking inequality
Commenting on Credit Suisse’s Global Wealth Report which was published today, Oxfam Canada’s Manager of Campaigns, Kelly Bowden, said:
“One again, the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report shows that economic inequality is at shockingly high levels. The huge gap between the richest 1 percent of people and the poorest half of humanity continues to grow and undermines economies, destabilize societies and impedes the global fight against poverty.
“Prime Minister Trudeau has taken to the world stage to showcase his plan for Canada, one that includes a commitment to shared economic prosperity and women’s rights. We urge him to turn those words into action, beginning with making sure that the next federal budget makes work paid, equal and valued for women – who often suffer the most from poverty but gain the least from economic growth.
“Globally, Canada can play a prominent role in addressing inequality, by working with other Governments and leaders to end the era of tax havens and by supporting the economic and social rights of women,” she said.
